Thierry Lundy - National Spoken-Word Artist

Sunday, November 1, 2009 |

An actor, comedian, and National Spoken-Word Artist, Thierry Lundy aspires to be on the big screen. This explosive young actor is sure to become one of your favorite actors--a household name in every family. Check out the video and see for yourself why Thierry Lundy is the future of entertainment. I sat down with the future thespian and picked his brain on a few topics that I'm sure the readers of Spoken Word New York are interested in. Check out the interview!

What exactly do you do...How did you get started?
I act. I create great monologues with interesting plots and characters, and perform them.

When did you know you wanted to become an artist?
I took an evaluation of my personality, and said to myself that this is where I need to be. I can't let my talents go to waste.

What/Who inspired you to become an artist...your influences?
My influences are friends and family. They are constantly motivating me to use my talents to progress in life.

Describe what entertaining is to you?
Making people laugh, smile, and be able to go home and talk to their family and friends about that young actor that they enjoyed so much.

Favorite entertainers? Who's doing what you are doing?
Michael Jackson. Period.

What have you learned, throughout your career, about this business. Any advice to artists that are just starting out?
That I need to hustle as hard as I can to stay ahead of the competition. Artists that are just starting out need to ask themselves "How bad do I want to succeed?" That's where most of your drive is going to come from.

Who is your target audience?
My work is catered to all age groups. I have monologues and poetry for adults and kids of all ages.

You're an actor, comedian, and spoken word artist. You've also written all of your skits and performances, which makes you a Playwright. What have you accomplished since you began your career?
I've had the opportunity to perform at the World Famous Apollo Theater. I am also taking part in a show that we will be putting on in November,2009 in Manhattan's Tribeca Performing Arts Center.

What projects are you working on...what are your future plans?
I just recently completed my one-man show DVD! I am also working on a one-man show that I'm going to cater to the Mars candy company. THAT I am extremely excited about!

And we are all excited for you.

Thierry Lundy - Today's Spoken-Word Comedic Actor

Monday, October 26, 2009 |

Blood, sweat, and tears stain every stage that actor, Thierry Lundy, touches. Born and raised in Miami, FL, now residing in Pennsylvania, this young talent can be spotted all over New York City for the countless opportunities that he seeks in his career. He is an actor, comedian, and National Spoken-Word artist. When asked what his pieces could be described as, the actors response was, "comedy fused with great acting."

A to-the-point statement that is well received and 100% creditable. With the use of accurate hand gestures and eerie facial expressions, the audience members become captivated.

A perfect example of this would be his "What Goes Up, Must Come Down"- One Man Show, where he plays the role of an egotistical Snickers bar. A must-see skit that will have you grabbing at your sides, laughing till it hurts.

Although Thierry is an all-around actor, he also specializes in Spoken-Word Poetry. In fact, October of 2008, he performed at the world famous
Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY. He recited his "Sky is Falling" poem which was dedicated to all those to died in the 9/11 tragedy.

Thierry Lundy is truly an inspiration to many. Using monologues, he educates on subject matters such as gun violence and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Speaking truth and awareness through comedy. An activist and educator on violence, he brings new meaning to leadership.

Being a very funny comedian, don't be surprised to find a lot of humor in his work. And that is a welcomed treat for all. Who doesn't enjoy a great laugh every now and then?

Poetry - The Art of Words, Spoken and Written

Monday, September 14, 2009 |

Poetry, spoken and written, is an aesthetic, evocative emotional language that lends itself to many interpretations. It often uses particular forms to expand the literal words to evoke these emotional and sensual responses to be appreciated by each individual reader.

The poet has many writing tools from which to choose. There are over fifty types of poetry styles. However, most poets work within the eight basic poetry-writing styles: free verse, humorous poems, limerick, lyrical, diamante, Haiku concrete and ballads. Others who are more adventurous or advanced may wish to experiment with styles such as these more modern forms: dub, analysis, prose slam, and Spoken Word Poetry.

Spoken Word Poetry is usually written in lines and verses otherwise referred to as Stanza which captures images vividly in an original refreshing way. At the same time it combines elements like theme, tension, complex emotions and profoundly reflects thought. Spoken Word Poetry incorporates sound and a most important element called rhythm, which in most cases is achieved by arranging lines into meters. One of the skills of poetry mastery is the ability of a poet to use figure of speech to give vivid images of the theme.

Poetry as a literary art may seem unattainable to the masses, however, it is by no means exclusive to brow-lifting subject matter or complicated style. Nursery rhymes, impromptu songs, spoken word performances, whether composed of nonsense or million-dollar words, are all highly accessible forms of poetry.

Delve into the rhythm of speech and discover a world of language that can open your eyes to the richness of spoken word poetry or written poetry--discover your passion for words.
